By completing the Order Picker Operator Training, you will acquire the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to operate order pickers safely and efficiently in various work environments. This course covers the following key skills:
✓ Earn the NPORS Operator Card, recognised across industries.
✓ Learn safe operation methods and ensure full compliance.
✓ Gain practical experience directly applicable in the warehouse and logistics.
✓ Progress to the Blue Competent Operator Card by completing an NVQ.
✓ Boost your employability with a widely recognised NPORS certification.
There is no formal experience required for the Order Picker operator training, making it accessible to all learners. However, participants should have a basic understanding of English and be physically able to handle and manoeuvre order pickers during practical exercises.
This course is suitable for those seeking to start low-level order picker training, advance to high-level order picker training, or enhance their skills for both operational settings.
The Order Picker Training is designed to provide maximum safety and efficiency. We offer two flexible delivery methods across the UK:
Experienced operators can complete the course in one day. Novice learners, however, may need up to 3 days to build technical confidence and learn safe load management techniques. Refresher training lasts 1 day and is designed to update your knowledge. If your card has expired, you will usually need to complete the Experienced Worker Practical Test (EWPA) to maintain safety standards.
📌 Please note that refresher training is designed to update your knowledge and does not renew your NPORS Operator Card.
The NPORS N005 Order Picker Course is assessed through a combination of theory and practical assessments, ensuring learners understand both the knowledge and hands-on aspects of order picker operation. The theory test consists of a multiple-choice exam that assesses your understanding of key topics, including safety procedures, operational techniques, and industry guidelines.
Once you successfully pass your assessment, your NPORS N005 Order Picker application will be processed. You will receive your Red Trained Operator Card within 5–10 working days. The type of card you receive depends on the Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) test you’ve completed:
Since most major UK construction sites require a CSCS-badged card, we recommend completing your CITB HS&E exam before enrolling to ensure your card is issued with the correct credentials upon course completion.
Once you’ve completed Order Picker Operator training and started gaining experience in the workplace, you can take the next step by enrolling in the NVQ Level 2 Forklift Truck. This on-site assessment allows you to demonstrate your skills in a real working environment and is required if you plan to upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card, which is valid for five years.
Gaining this qualification helps confirm your ability to operate equipment safely and effectively, while also supporting progression into more responsible roles across warehousing, logistics, and site-based operations.
Our pricing is affordable, especially for businesses training multiple employees. On-site training reduces per-person costs and avoids travel expenses. The fee for novice operators is slightly more due to additional training days. For more details and a custom quote, click “ Enquire Now” or call 0333 344 1293.
No, the NPORS N005 Order Picker training cannot be completed online. Due to the hands-on nature of operating order pickers and the strict UK safety standards for equipment use, all learners are required to complete their practical training and assessment in person, either at your workplace or at one of our accredited training centres.
After completing the NPORS N005 Order Picker Course, you will receive a Red Trained Operator Card valid for two years. To include the CSCS logo, a valid CITB HS&E test certificate issued within the last 2 years is required. If the CSCS logo isn’t needed, no additional test is necessary. To upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card (valid for five years), you must complete the relevant NVQ within two years.
In the UK, both NPORS and CPCS are well-recognised awarding bodies that adhere to the high safety and operational standards required for plant machinery. While the two qualifications are separate, they are often regarded as equivalent because both provide a pathway to a CSCS-badged card, which is necessary for access to major construction sites under the Build UK framework.
