Entry Requirements

There is no formal experience required for the Order Picker operator training, making it accessible to all learners. However, participants should have a basic understanding of English and be physically able to handle and manoeuvre order pickers during practical exercises.

This course is suitable for those seeking to start low-level order picker training, advance to high-level order picker training, or enhance their skills for both operational settings.

How Is the Order Picker Operator Training Delivered?

The Order Picker Training is designed to provide maximum safety and efficiency. We offer two flexible delivery methods across the UK:

  • On-site Training: Our most popular option. We come to your workplace, allowing operators to train on their own equipment. This option saves travel time and minimises disruption at your site.
  • Training Centre: For those who prefer an off-site environment, we offer full classroom and practical facilities at our dedicated training centres.

Experienced operators can complete the course in one day. Novice learners, however, may need up to 3 days to build technical confidence and learn safe load management techniques. Refresher training lasts 1 day and is designed to update your knowledge. If your card has expired, you will usually need to complete the Experienced Worker Practical Test (EWPA) to maintain safety standards.

📌 Please note that refresher training is designed to update your knowledge and does not renew your NPORS Operator Card.

Assessment

The NPORS N005 Order Picker Course is assessed through a combination of theory and practical assessments, ensuring learners understand both the knowledge and hands-on aspects of order picker operation. The theory test consists of a multiple-choice exam that assesses your understanding of key topics, including safety procedures, operational techniques, and industry guidelines.

  • Conducting pre-use inspections and safety checks.
  • Safely handling loads and manoeuvring in different environments.
  • Operating safely with both loaded and unloaded conditions.
  • Responding to hazards and equipment malfunctions.
🎯 Concerned About the Assessment?

Our experienced trainers provide clear guidance and ongoing support throughout the course to help you prepare confidently and complete the assessment successfully.

What You'll Receive After the Course?

Once you successfully pass your assessment, your NPORS N005 Order Picker application will be processed. You will receive your Red Trained Operator Card within 5–10 working days. The type of card you receive depends on the Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) test you’ve completed:

  • Standard NPORS Card: If you prefer the standard NPORS card, you can complete the internal NPORS exam on the same day as your training.
  • NPORS Card with CSCS Logo: If you need the CSCS logo for site access, you must have a valid CITB HS&E test certificate from the last two years.

Since most major UK construction sites require a CSCS-badged card, we recommend completing your CITB HS&E exam before enrolling to ensure your card is issued with the correct credentials upon course completion.

Career Progression

Once you’ve completed Order Picker Operator training and started gaining experience in the workplace, you can take the next step by enrolling in the NVQ Level 2 Forklift Truck. This on-site assessment allows you to demonstrate your skills in a real working environment and is required if you plan to upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card, which is valid for five years.

Gaining this qualification helps confirm your ability to operate equipment safely and effectively, while also supporting progression into more responsible roles across warehousing, logistics, and site-based operations.

Common Questions About NPORS N005 Order Picker Training

What is the Price for Order Picker Operator Training?

Our pricing is affordable, especially for businesses training multiple employees. On-site training reduces per-person costs and avoids travel expenses. Can the training be done online?

No, the NPORS N005 Order Picker training cannot be completed online. Due to the hands-on nature of operating order pickers and the strict UK safety standards for equipment use, all learners are required to complete their practical training and assessment in person, either at your workplace or at one of our accredited training centres.

Which NPORS card will I receive after the course?

After completing the NPORS N005 Order Picker Course, you will receive a Red Trained Operator Card valid for two years. To include the CSCS logo, a valid CITB HS&E test certificate issued within the last 2 years is required. If the CSCS logo isn’t needed, no additional test is necessary. To upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card (valid for five years), you must complete the relevant NVQ within two years.

How Do NPORS and CPCS Qualifications Compare for Site Access?

In the UK, both NPORS and CPCS are well-recognised awarding bodies that adhere to the high safety and operational standards required for plant machinery. While the two qualifications are separate, they are often regarded as equivalent because both provide a pathway to a CSCS-badged card, which is necessary for access to major construction sites under the Build UK framework.
