How Do I Complete this NVQ?

This NVQ is assessed entirely on-site through practical, real-world evidence — there are no exams or classroom sessions. You’ll complete the qualification by building a portfolio that reflects the work you already do as a stonemason.

After enrolling, your dedicated assessor will schedule an induction to:

  • Set up your login for our online Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Show you how to upload evidence and track your progress
  • Walk you through each stage of your portfolio

You can then complete the course at your own pace. Your assessor will support you one-to-one with regular check-ins, feedback, and guidance.

Because this qualification is assessed on the job, how long it takes depends on how quickly you can gather and submit the right evidence. Most learners complete the NVQ in 3–6 weeks — and some finish in as little as 2.

As part of your portfolio, you'll collect evidence such as:

  • Risk assessments and method statements
  • Stone cutting or fixing schedules
  • Witness statements from a supervisor
  • Photos or videos of your completed work

You’ll have up to 12 months to finish the qualification — but with steady progress and support from your assessor, you can complete it much sooner.

How is the Stonemasonry Level 2 Qualification Assessed?

There are no exams or classroom sessions required to complete this NVQ. Instead, you'll build an online portfolio that showcases the work you already do as a stonemason.

Your assessor will guide you through the process — from induction to final submission — and provide one-to-one support to ensure you meet the requirements.

Assessment typically involves:

  • Answering knowledge questions (either in writing or through a professional discussion)
  • Providing a witness testimony from your line manager or supervisor
  • Uploading supporting documents such as RAMS, schedules, or stonework specifications
  • Sharing photos or videos of your stonemasonry work
  • Your assessor may carry out a site visit or video call to observe your performance on the job
