Top Up Door Supervisor Overview

The SIA Top-Up Door Supervisor Upskilling course is a training program designed for existing Door Supervisors in the United Kingdom to renew their SIA license. The course provides an update on knowledge and skills relevant to the role and ensures that door supervisors are up-to-date with industry standards and regulations.

The course covers topics such as conflict management, physical intervention techniques, emergency procedures, and legal responsibilities. Completion of the course is a requirement for renewing the SIA Door Supervisor license and continuing to work in the field. The specific content and duration of the course may vary depending on the training provider.

First Aid Requirement

Effective from October 2021, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) has made First Aid training mandatory for individuals working in the security industry. As part of the SIA Top-Up Door Supervisor Upskilling course, if you do not possess a valid First Aid certification, the training provider will include a  First Aid component to ensure compliance. This additional training will provide you with Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certification, which covers essential first aid skills and knowledge required in the workplace. The First Aid training will encompass topics such as CPR, managing incidents, dealing with unconscious casualties, wound care, and more. Successful completion of the course will fulfill the SIA requirement for First Aid training, enabling you to renew your Door Supervisor license and continue working in the security industry.

Assesments

At the end of the course, you will be assessed by practical demonstrations, questions and answers,  and will undertake 3 multiple choice exams exams 

1.  Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry.
2. Principles of Using Equipment Relevant to Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry.
3. Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry.

The passing marks are 70% for the first 2 exams and 80% for the last exam.

Entry Requirements for the course

• Valid SIA Door Supervisor License: To enroll in the Top-Up course, you must hold a valid SIA Door Supervisor license. This means you should have already completed the initial Door Supervisor training and obtained the license. The Top-Up course is specifically designed for individuals who are already working as door supervisors.

• Proof of Identity: You may be required to provide proof of your identity, such as a valid passport, driver's license, or national identity card. This is to ensure that you are the rightful license holder and to verify your personal details.

• Language Proficiency: As with the initial Door Supervisor course, you may need to demonstrate a good command of the language spoken in the area where you work. This is to ensure effective communication in the role.

• Criminal Record Check: The SIA typically requires an updated criminal record check as part of the license renewal process. You may need to undergo a new check or provide evidence of a recent check to confirm that you do not have any disqualifying convictions.
